More than $3 million in improvements are set to be approved for Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.
Gov. Dannel Malloy made the announcement Friday, marking the first major upgrade to the park in years.
The restrooms, concession stand and landscaping will get a facelift as part of the deal. There will also be some slight changes to the pavilion's configuration.
Park officials also say they will add a second entrance to the pavilion and replace the seating. Solar panels will be added to the roof, which will be used to heat the bathrooms and for hot water.
However, News 12 is told that the observation deck will close in order to make room for the solar panels, which means there will no access to the public.
The Sept. 11 memorial will also be upgraded. It will be lit so that it can be better seen under the pavilion.
