A 6-year-old Bridgeport boy died suddenly in his sleep, his family says.

Christian David-Devon Johnson died in his sleep while staying at his grandfather's house in Hamden last Thursday, his family says.

A funeral service was held Friday at Cathedral of Praise Church on the South End of Bridgeport.

The child's family says Johnson, who was born in Bridgeport in 2013, was famous for his bright smile and engaging personality.

His family says the medical examiner has not yet determined a cause of his death, but they want to share a powerful message for other families with young children.

Family members say they have created a campaign called "Christian's Credo" in memory of Christian.

They are reminding all parents to hug and kiss their children every day, and to tell them "I love you."

"Take the extra time," says Christian's uncle, Keenan Hatton. "We all have busy lives--but this time you have with your family, especially children, take it."

They say they want their simple message to spread as part of Johnson's legacy.

Johnson's family says "Christian's Credo" is helping them through what is a very dark time.

"He was always an angel," Hatton says. "He always was an angel and he always will continue to be."
