A 74-year-old man is charged with robbing a Stamford bank Thursday morning.
The incident happened at the People's United Bank on Shippan Avenue just after it opened.
Police say Thomas Genovese, a retired Stamford High School janitor, gave the teller a note demanding cash but did not have a weapon.
Stamford Police Lt. Diedrich Hohn says Genovese drove off in a late-model Volvo, which was found a short time later at his home at the Kingswood Apartments.
Prior to the alleged robbery, investigators say Genovese lived his whole life as a law-abiding citizen. Officials say he was not struggling financially.
Genovese is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
