A 75-year-old man was stabbed in the neck while collecting cans and bottles in Bridgeport on Friday, police say.
The stabbing happened at the corner of Stillman Street and Nobel Avenue around 5:30 a.m.
Witnesses saw him on the ground and say someone was on top of him.
Police Chief A.J. Perez says the victim attempted to fight off the attack.
"He was able to push away the individual who was hurting him. That's when he was stabbed twice in the neck."
The man was transported to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Police say they are reviewing surveillance video and are confident they will make an arrest.
