A woman was struck by a box struck on the Cross Bronx Expressway earlier this morning, police say.

According to the NYPD, a 39-year-old woman was struck by the box truck near Exit 4 on the Cross Bronx Expressway at around 2 a.m.

According to police, the woman exited out of a vehicle from the passenger side when she was hit by the truck. 

The woman was taken to the hospital and is in critical but stable condition with a severe leg injury. 

The 55-year-old driver of the the box truck remained on the scene.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
