The Amity Regional School District has agreed to pay a $22,000 fine to the state for non-compliance with public health regulations.
The Department of Public Health alleges the district mishandled the removal of asbestos from its three schools, that it did not keep accurate records, and that it did not comply with periodic inspections over several years.
The school superintendent says the district is in compliance with all the Department of Public Health laws at this time. He claims that although the district signed the consent order, it doesn?t admit doing anything wrong. He adds the allegations never charged the district with exposing any students or staff to asbestos containing material.
