Police are looking for a missing assault rifle that was reported stolen.
Fairfield police say a town resident reported the Bushmaster AR-15 stolen yesterday, but it went missing after Sandy. Police say the rifle was legally owned, but not locked in a safe. Deputy Chief Chris Lyddy says it's important for gun owners to re-examine how their weapons are secured, especially since the shootings two weeks ago in Newtown.
The missing weapon is the same kind of gun that was used in the Newtown shootings and in the killing of two firefighters in upstate New York earlier this week.
