The state Department of Education has released its findings into Bridgeport’s public schools.
The audit found no evidence of fraud or misappropriation of district assets.
But the state says, “However, the audit identified several deficiencies related to board oversight, management communication, and financial transparency, which led to certain procedures not being followed and the misrepresentation of financial information."
The audit came in response to Bridgeport schools operating with a projected $39 million deficit.
The audit includes more than 30 recommendations for improvements in “fiscal oversight, enhancing transparency and reinforcing internal accountability.”
In response, the school system says, “This audit is an important step toward building a stronger, more transparent, and more accountable school district.”
