An autopsy will be performed Friday on the 4-month-old girl who died at a Norwalk day care facility owned by Mayor Harry Rilling's daughter, Christine Limone.

The fire department was called from inside the home day care at 9 Hunters Lane just after 1 p.m. Wednesday for an infant that was having difficulty breathing.

They say the baby was later pronounced dead at Norwalk Hospital.

Connecticut State Police have taken over the case to avoid a conflict of interest since Rilling served as Norwalk police chief for two decades before becoming mayor.

The Department of Children and Families and the Office of Early Childhood, which regulates day care centers, are also investigating.

The day care has been licensed since 2002 and was inspected in March. That inspection found the home to be slightly over capacity. Investigators say a May follow-up inspection corrected the issue, but still showed some electrical and safety hazards in the facility.

Police say they do not expect to release more details surrounding the death until the autopsy is performed. They say this is the third day care death in southwestern Connecticut this year.
