Family, friends and community members gathered in Baychester on Friday to honor the life of 17-year-old Anthonaya Campbell, who was killed by gun violence in Baychester.
The teenager, from Hartford, Connecticut, was visiting family in the Bronx when she was one of five people shot at Haffen Park on Aug. 23.
Campbell was the youngest victim.
She died last week, weeks after the shooting.
Relatives said a bullet remained lodged behind her eye, and she was in ICU.
Campbell’s mother, Jennifer Talbot, is now trying to cope with the loss of her daughter, who she described as a loving girl who had a lot to live for.
“It’s like a nightmare,” Talbot said. “I don’t know how else to put it. You’re looking for somebody to pinch you or to break something and you’re going to wake up from a nightmare. You’re still looking for her to come upstairs. You’re looking for a phone call. You’re looking for a text message. It’s one of those types of situations.”
Police arrested four people, including two teens who are 16 and 17 years old. All four are charged with murder, and three are facing gang assault and weapon charges.
