Police are investigating vandalism that has left the Stamford community and staff at the Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens stunned.
Police say someone shattered windows, damaged a door and toppled beehives, upsetting the bees, at the arboretum on Brookdale Road on Friday. Staff members discovered the vandalism early Monday.
"It's hard to imagine...anyone would do something like this," says an arboretum employee. "It's a shame because we've been pretty free and easy about how people can access buildings, but it won't be like that anymore."
Arboretum officials say the facility, which doesn't have security gates, runs mostly on donations, so repairs could be costly.
