Police say a ransom exchange erupted into a melee involving 19 people in Greenwich when relatives wielding baseball bats tried to rescue alleged kidnappingvictims.
Greenwich police say they arrested one alleged kidnapper afterSunday morning's incident in the Thruway Shopping Center parking lot. Thesuspect's name was not released. A second suspect is being sought.
The brawl followed an alert by U.S. Immigration and CustomsEnforcement officials to area police of a human smugglinginvestigation.
Police say relatives from Willimantic told investigators theywere trying to recapture three family members who were kidnapped inTexas and brought to Connecticut for a ransom exchange.
The kidnapping suspect and the three victims were held forquestioning on immigration violation charges.
