The Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport is doing its best to keep its animals cool amid sizzling temperatures.
It was even too hot Tuesday for the zoo's African tortoises, which live in the sweltering desert heat. The zoo had to keep them in the shade and soak up water.
Tiger cubs that were born in November have a pool to keep cool.
The animals can also go indoors where it's air conditioned, but zoo director Gregg Dancho says he was more concerned about the human visitors.
"Our guests today are walking around in the sun, so I'm more worried about them getting heat stroke than I am about the tigers," he says. "The animals instinctively know what to do to cool themselves off."
Dancho says it’s important that the animals at the zoo, much like people, have enough food, water and shelter to manage the heat.
