A Bronx politician chose a handful of students who applied to go with him to Peru.
Councilman Fernando Cabrera put together the annual trip, where high school students raise money to help kids in another country. The students brought over items like medical supplies and water filtration kits, and even performed tasks such as washing the feet of Peruvian children.
Cabrera says he hopes the students he brought don't see the trip as work, but as an opportunity that brings out the best in them.
Next year's trip will take whichever kids are chosen to the Dominican Republic.
