Officials honored two bodegas Tuesday for their commitment to healthy eating.
The borough president's office delivered a proclamation for Gold Grill Deli and Grocery and Vivian Grocery for improving their healthy selections of food.
Both stores participated in a program run by the Montefiore Health System and Bronx REACH CHAMPS.
Some of the changes the shops made included putting fresh produce closer to the cash register, offering low-sodium and low-sugar products and putting water and other low-calorie drinks at eye level.
Hospital officials say they chose the two stores because patients in the neighborhood tended to have higher rates of obesity and diabetes.
Overall, the Healthy Store Initiative includes eight delis in the Bronx.
Hospital officials say they hope to add more.
