Some residents in Bridgeport are calling on the community to support a local barbershop in danger of closing.
According to the owner, several of the barbers have left "Just Right Cutz" at 500 Park Ave. after seeing their co-worker, Deon Rodney, 31, killed while trying to keep them from getting shot.
News 12 met with the parents and wife of Rodney, who were at the business to visit his chair and wish the business the best of luck in trying to keep its doors open.
Charlie Green, 61, was a longtime customer of Rodney’s, and now he's trying to rally people together to make sure the business does not close.
The owner says after Rodney was fatally shot by a masked man while heroically trying to save the lives of innocent people two weeks ago, several of the barbers have left because they fear for their lives.
Green is now leading a special effort to get the public to return, get their hair cut and support the establishment so it’s not also taken away from the community.
Green says to keep its doors open, the business needs new barbers as well as customers.
Rodney's funeral is set for Saturday.
Customers and barbers are encouraged to head to the barbershop between 10 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and help keep the doors open.
