The Bridgeport Board of Education held an emergency meeting Thursday night to discuss how to tackle the effects of operating without a state budget.
The lack of a budget one month into the district's school year has led to several rounds of cuts already.
Now, the mayor's office sent out a letter saying that without state aid, schools would run out of funds by the end of the week.
The panic caused by the letter led to Thursday's emergency meeting.
At the meeting, state Representative Steven Stafstrom emphasized that poorer school districts, including Bridgeport, will still receive state funding next week.
But the Board of Education says the flat funding they will receive from the state is not enough – grants the district usually sees will be gone.
With uncertainty across the area, city leaders are continuing to try and come up with ways to fill the financial hole.
A Republican budget proposal came across Gov. Malloy's desk Thursday, but it was vetoed.
If state lawmakers are unable to reach an agreement, the state could see more cuts on Monday.
