Following yesterday's shooting of a 3-year-old girl in Bridgeport, many city residents may feel there is little police can do to stop the violence.

But in an exclusive interview with News 12 Connecticut, Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph Gaudett outlined his department's new strategies and says they will make a difference.

Gaudett says his department started an Urban Violence Task Force made up of officers from the state, Bridgeport, Fairfield, Trumbull and Stratford to identify and target gang members police say are responsible for most of the violent street crime in Bridgeport.

In addition, Bridgeport police say they are using statistics to focus their efforts similar to how New York City began doing in the 1990s.
