A Bridgeport couple died in a head-on collision in Florida Wednesday, and the victims were well-liked educators at local colleges.
Jose Labrador was the acting director of education technology at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, according to employees there. He'd worked at the school for about eight years.
Labrador died with his wife, Gisela Gil-Egui, in a crash near Miami, Florida, Wednesday.
News 12 has previously reported that Florida police say the couple was hit head-on by a woman driving a pickup truck.
According to officials, the couple had just arrived in Miami from Connecticut to celebrate New Year's and were picked up by Gil-Egui's brother and mother.
Authorities say all four family members and the driver of the pickup truck died in the crash.
William Brown, the acting dean of academic affairs at Housatonic, says Labrador was known for his kindness and described the couple as sweet and friendly.
Gil-Egui was also an educator. One of her former students remembered her Thursday as an "inspiring person."
