A Bridgeport woman is asking the public for help paying for funeral expenses following the death of a beloved resident.
Judith Zapata says her 40-year-old sister died two months ago, but the family cannot afford to bury her.
The family says Cuny Zapata, who suffered kidney failure, was well-known for giving a helping hand to anyone who needed assistance.
Her sister says the community came together to help after another family member died and left behind eight children last year.
"I would like for everyone that can help to please help me," says Zapata. "I'm sorry I have to ask for help again from the community, but this was unexpected too. She was good to people, always helping somebody, giving her last. It hurts so much because I didn't even get to see her or talk with her or say my goodbyes to her."
The family says donations can be made directly to Community Funeral Chapel on Park Avenue.
