A machine that spits fire was out on the streets of Bridgeport Friday, as workers began using a new kind of technology to repave local roads.
Hot-In-Place technology instantly recycles asphalt that's already in the street by heating it, scooping it up and grinding it. It then uses that recycled mixture to repave the road it came from.
City officials say the process gets the job done four times as fast and about half of the cost of conventional methods of repaving.
In the final step of the Hot-In-Place process, the street is sealed with a liquid that gives it a like-new finish.
The method will be used on more city streets throughout the summer.
