Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim held a ceremonial flag-raising over the weekend to commemorate Gay Pride Month.
The event was held at the Margaret E. Morton Government Center.
Organizers say they were happy to observe at the end of the June, because many of their festivities are in July. They say having the mayor pay tribute is great for morale.
"We're just so happy that he supports the LGBT community, especially in a time where in other parts of the country we're losing our rights," says Robert Rickard, of Bridgeport.
Ganim says the events represent a stance against discrimination and violence targeting the gay community.
