Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch declared today "Adam Greenberg Day" in honor of the Bridgeport Bluefish player who recently got his first official major league at-bat seven years after first stepping up to the plate.
Greenberg was hit in the head by a pitch seven years ago in his first at-bat. Greenberg recently signed a one-day contract with the Miami Marlins and got another chance to bat.
At a news conference, Greenberg said he counted the appearance at the plate as a victory despite striking out.
Greenberg also said he hopes his recovery serves as an inspiration to others with similar injuries.
