Police in Bridgeport say a man is facing charges after he engaged officers in a standoff and threatened to kill one of his neighbors.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday on Trojan Drive.
According to police, 49-year-old Glen Pieger was making threats about hurting himself or possibly someone else in his backyard, which triggered a standoff that lasted about 90 minutes.
Authorities say Pieger eventually surrendered peacefully. They say he did not have a gun and was sent for a psychiatric evaluation after being arrested.
Pieger had been arrested earlier in the day for trying to break into a neighbor's shed, according to authorities. They say their hostage negotiator did an excellent job getting him to surrender.
"This incident was handled so well by the Bridgeport Police Department," says Chief AJ Perez. "We were able to de-escalate the situation. We were afraid that there were other people in the house, and if he did have a weapon, he made a threat that he was going to shoot the neighbor, who knows, he could have hurt somebody in the house."
A close family member tells News 12 that Pieger "is a good guy who would never hurt anybody" and that "he's working hard to get his life back on track."
Police say they arrested Pieger one month ago on drug charges and seized all of his guns at that time.
