When people think of front-line workers during the coronavirus pandemic, they usually think of health care workers. But there are often other front like workers who get overlooked.

Luis Borgus, 43, works at the Bridgeport Department of Public Facilities.

"We're here on a daily basis, day in and day out to make sure that the city continues to function even though there's a pandemic going on," Borgus said.

Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim was joined by Sen. Richard Blumenthal Friday in paying special tribute to the Department of Public Facilities.

Many of these workers have the challenge of dealing safely with materials contaminated by coronavirus, while many others interact routinely with the public.

"I think it's important to recognize the public facility workers as front-line workers," said Ganim.
