A group of Bridgeport ministers denounced the grand jury's decision in Ferguson at a briefing Tuesday and called on lawmakers to strengthen their relationship with communities of color.
The grand jury decided not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of unarmed black teen Michael Brown.
"Every city, including Bridgeport, is only one step away from a Ferguson being repeated if police departments do not begin to reflect the communities in which they serve," says state Rep. and Pastor Charlie Stallworth. He was joined at the briefing by other ministers, along with Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and Police Chief Joseph Gaudett.
Finch says more officers of color are needed as a step toward mending what he agrees is a lack of trust.
