A Bridgeport nonprofit that helps kids with special needs is currently raising money to purchase a wheelchair-accessible van.

Isabell Richardson created Aaron's Journey in honor of her 9-year-old son who had special needs. He died in 2008.

In 2014, the nonprofit partnered with the city to build an all-inclusive playground at Beardsley Park.

Organizer Deserie Clack Wilson says the van will transport kids to doctors' appointments, physical therapy and the playground.

"It's so crucial for their quality of life. These kids have no accessibility without vans and services like that and we need them to have a better quality of life because they deserve it," she says.
