Rosa Gonzalez, 40, gave a big hug to Bridgeport Fire Chief Lance Edwards Tuesday, thanking him and his department for helping save her life two months ago.

"His firefighters picked me up and carried me to safety after this house caught fire, and I'm very grateful to them," Gonzalez told News 12.

Gonzalez became a paraplegic after being shot eight times during a robbery in 2010.

"That experience taught me to be grateful for all of the blessings in my life - and especially for my life itself, which they saved," she said.

Chief Edwards said he was proud to represent the firefighters who took part in the rescue efforts.

"It's great to be appreciated for just doing our jobs," Chief Edwards said.

Donations can be made through her GoFundMe.
