Bridgeport police arrested four people in connection with an internet-based scam that led to real-world armed robberies, authorities say.
The suspects allegedly posted advertisements for popular products like iPhones at prices well-below market value.
When potential buyers showed up in person, the suspects allegedly robbed them at gunpoint.
Police say the scam led to more than a dozen such robberies and used popular sites like Craigslist. They say the scammers insisted on meeting the buyers in person at dark locations and at night.
Investigators set up a sting operation last week and arrested four suspects, all juveniles.
Officials recommend meeting in a public place to complete a transaction from someone you do not know, such as a restaurant or in front of the police department.
Police say anyone who may have been a victim should contact them.
