Bridgeport police gave News 12 Connecticut an inside look at the past and present days of their mounted police unit.
There are seven horses in total that live and breathe this police beat, stationed in a historic carriage house which dates back to at least 1918.
Officials say most of the horses are retired and donated, while others are purchased with grant money.
Police officers say training is about keeping the animals fit and alert, as well as calm and prepared for anything.
The division was last active in the 1980s and was revived in 1998.
