The city of Bridgeport announced Thursday that its reestablished the city's fair rent commission.

The commission is made up a seven members who will help mediate disputes between tenants and landlords in the city.

The median household income in Bridgeport is just under $51,000 per year, while the average rent in the area is more than $2,000 per month.

That means many families are spending more than 50% of household income on rent.
