A Bridgeport senior says she's been sleeping in her car since Christmas Eve due to mold in her apartment complex.
Carmen Casado claims the mold problem at Fireside Apartments on the Upper East Side is so bad, she's ended up in the emergency room with health issues affecting her breathing. She has shown News 12 medical records supporting her claims.
Casado says she can’t spend more than a few hours at a time in the apartment without getting sick, forcing her to sleep in her car.
"It was freezing outside. I had to sleep in my car because there was such mold -- a lot of mold in my bed and everything. I couldn't sleep there," she said.
Casado also believes her dog has developed health issues relating to the mold.
Councilwoman Maria Pereira says mold is a chronic problem in the complex and needs to be dealt with immediately.
News 12 reached out to housing officials for comment and are waiting for a response.
