Officials in Bridgeport say a man is dead following an armed robbery at his store Saturday afternoon.
Police say two men each wielding guns entered the Sapiaos Grocery Store at 351 Lexington Ave. at around 3 p.m.
They say the store owner, 57-year-old Jose Salgado, was shot as he was handing money over to him.
Salgado was pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Hospital.
Loved ones say Salgado was known for providing the homeless with food free of charge. They also say he was a husband, father and grandfather, and a beloved member of the Portuguese community.
Police released surveillance video depicting both suspects fleeing in a green Ford Focus on Linen Avenue. Anyone with information is urged to call police.
