Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch announced Sunday that state officials have given the city control over the design of its second train station.
Finch said the new train station will be built on Barnum Avenue across from the old Remington Arms site, thanks to a grant of more than $2.5 million.
The mayor said state officials recognized the need for Bridgeport to design its own station. "Maybe it can be a train station that looks a little more like Stamford than just a loading platform. When the city of Bridgeport can control its own destiny, it's always better," he says.
Finch says he hopes the train station will be built by 2018.
