Letters will go out this Saturday informing Bridgeport residents of how much they owe in car taxes in an effort to collect the more than $45 million the city is owed.

The notices will also explain the penalty issued if residents choose not to pay: their tires will be booted and a $95 fee will be charged.

?We need to get the money that's owed to the city so the revenues coming in match the expenses of the city,? says Mayor Bill Finch. ?We can't have a budget dependent on these revenues and then the revenues don't come in. We have to have people pay their taxes.?

The city will use VioAlert Systems to patrol streets starting Oct. 6

The VioAlert program will cost the city nothing to operate. It is on a 60 day trial, but will be extended if successful.
