The Bridgeport community is coming together to help a local veterans group save its headquarters from foreclosure.
As News 12 previously reported, veterans at American Legion Post 140 on Stratford Avenue asked for the public's help in raising money to avoid the post from going into foreclosure.
The veterans say they are grateful after a local official saw News 12's coverage of their story and decided to donate $1,000 to help them keep their doors open.
Assitant Fire Chief Harold Clarke presented a check to the organization Sunday morning.
The members say they are grateful for the donation, but have a long way to go to avoid foreclosure.
The veterans say they fell behind on a number of payments to the Bridgeport Water Pollution Control Authority, the Bridgeport tax collector and several other local entities they owed money to.
