Middle School students at Bridgeport's High Horizons Magnet ranked first in the nation in a category of a national math competition.
Principal Francine Carbone says the school won first place national in the Kahn Academy Math Competition, known as the Khanathalon, in the Level Up category. That's where kids compete to see who advances to the next level based on the number of correct responses they give.
"I think it puts us in a positive light. I think it really represents our school in a good way, especially in the math department," said Kelci Keddo, an eighth grader.
Kahn Academy officials came to the school Wednesday to celebrate the kids' achievement.
"Bridgeport often gets negative press, so to have someone come in from another national organization to recognize us for the work that we do is just an amazing feeling for myself and for the school community," said Carbone.
Bridgeport's Hall School took first place nationwide in Khan Academy's Take Your Time category.
