A local developer says he wants to clear up confusion surrounding the reported closure of the historic Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport.
As News 12 reported over the summer, employees and patrons protested after hearing the theater could shut down due to financial troubles.
However, the landlord of the building on Fairfield Avenue says it is not closing anytime soon. Developer Phil Kuchma says there were never plans to close down -- the tenants occupying the building merely changed.
Kuchma says a company called One and Only Entertainment had a five-year lease in the building, and it had organized the events. Its lease ended this summer. A new company is now renting the building.
Kuchma says the theatre will be holding the same type of cultural and artistic events for which it has been known over the years.
He did not release the name of the company that has taken over the space. News 12 was unable to reach the previous tenant.
