A British artist is making waves in Westport with her transparent purse sculptures.
Debra Franses has been making fashion news around the world with her unique creations.
"She is celebrating who women are and using the most intimate items that we have in our handbags to freeze them in time and really celebrate us," said Eve Gianni, of Clarendon Fine Art.
They’ve been called "art bags" and are said to be very popular in Europe – now they've made their way to the Westport community. Clarendon Fine Art on Main Street is inviting the public to a free exhibit of the handbags, which are made from high-gloss resin.
"We've had her purses in our windows and people come in off the street to ask how this is created, how it was made, what was done,” said Elizabeth Walsh, of Clarendon Fine Art. “It's really fun to share with people that these works are available here."
They say the sculptures – described as "pop art in the digital age" – can be customized to contain whatever customers desire.
