Brookfield police announced Friday that K-9 Officer Major died and was laid to rest Thursday.
Major was 8 years old and began his career in 2017 with his partner Cpl. Joseph Kyek, faithfully serving until his passing.
Major was diagnosed with lymphoma on Feb. 9 of this year.
During his more than six years of service, Major was deployed more than 200 times, officers said, and assisted them with narcotic, criminal and missing person investigations and felony and misdemeanor arrests.
Brookfield police say Major is most known for finding an unconscious man who wanted to kill himself in the woods, an injured person hiding after a crash, a missing child and a 60-pound drug seizure.
This past January, officers say Major tracked and apprehended a fleeing suspect involved in a shots-fired incident after a police pursuit.
