With the Bridgeport mayor's race is just one month away, Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim and State Sen. Marilyn Moore held rallies Saturday, wasting no time in getting their messages to voters.

Moore's rally welcomed supporters on the steps of the Margaret E. Morton Government Center to hear the candidate saying she wants to get the word out about an aggressive write-in campaign.

Moore made a special point to distance herself from the ongoing controversy surrounding absentee ballots, that are believed by some to have helped her opponent Mayor Joe Ganim.

Moore tells News 12 that it's time to focus on her positive message of unity, creating jobs and bringing the community together in the wake of a bruising battle.

"I want to be the mayor,” she says. “I want to clear out this place of all the negativity. I want to bring business in. I want kids to go to college and come back and want to work here.  I want to do my best for Bridgeport."

If Moore wins, she will become the city’s first black mayor.

Mayor Joe Ganim also held a rally at 12:30 p.m. at the Trumbull Gardens Community Center, saying he wants to continue growing the economy by creating jobs and attracting development.

Ganim says he wants to build on the momentum he's started with over a billion dollars in real estate development, while lowering taxes and expanding the tax base.

"Making our city safer with community policing, more police officers, more libraries,” says Ganim. "Opportunities for young people, a better future for everyone. We're paving the way for a better Bridgeport."

The general election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5.
