A Mercedes sedan crashed through the wall of the Fairfield Collision Center after an employee attempted to stop the vehicle from rolling backward, officials say.
The incident happened just after 2 p.m. Monday at the Fairfield Collision Center on Linwood Avenue.
A manager at the auto body shop told News 12 that the car was getting washed and started to roll backward when an employee attempted to stop the car by jumping inside. However, they say the employee hit the gas instead of the brakes.
The car smashed through the wall and landed in the shrubs outside. Firefighters had to set up a rigging system to remove a number of concrete beams that fell due to the crash.
The employee who was inside of the car was not injured, and the building was deemed safe to use, according to the fire department.
The car is owned by the shop, so no customers were directly affected by the incident.
The shop will be open and maintain normal operating hours.
