SUV crashes into Linden home after collision; other driver flees scene

An SUV crashed through a fence and into a Linden home Tuesday evening following a collision with another vehicle whose driver fled the scene, according to police.
The crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. at East Linden Avenue and Carteret Street. Police said a 2007 Ford SUV was traveling west on East Linden Avenue when it collided with a 2009 sedan traveling south on Carteret Street.
The impact sent the Ford across a front lawn, through a fence and into a home on the 200 block of East Linden Avenue, police said.
The Ford's driver suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was taken to Trinitas Regional Medical Center. No other injuries were reported.
Police said the crash caused extensive damage to the home's foundation. Firefighters shut off the utilities as a precaution, and the home was declared uninhabitable. The American Red Cross provided assistance to the residents.
The driver of the sedan fled the scene but was later identified as a 66-year-old Elizabeth woman, according to police. She was issued multiple summonses.
