A car struck the front entrance of the Gateway Apartments in
Bridgeport Sunday morning – the third time it has happened in the last
two years.
Police said the crash happened just before 8:30 a.m.
while the car was traveling south on West Avenue and veered off course.
Residents said they felt the building shake when the car hit it.
They said the driver of the car fled but was later taken
into custody.
The building is home to the nonprofit Building Neighborhoods
Together, which runs the apartments above it.
Residents told News 12 Connecticut they were upset by the
constant traffic incidents.
"It's just unbelievable. I would love the state to put…
metal barriers, anything,” said Charlie Griggs. “We need something, whether
it's blinking stop sign or a yellow light, but please, please, please let's do
something.”
It wasn't clear what charges the driver may be facing.
