The Bronx's Christopher Columbus High School has made the grade and is off the city's watch list of troubled schools, according to the Department of Education.
The mayor's office says crime at the once-troubled school is down 50 percent from the same time last year. The city placed the institution on the Impact Schools initiative list after consulting with the NYPD. The program, which started in 2004, aims to monitor chronically violent institutions.
The Bronx's John F. Kennedy and Walton high schools remain on the list, which currently consists of nine schools citywide. Some parents argue overcrowding, not students, is to blame.
