Bridgeport city officials shut down a second deli for health code violations in a crime-plagued neighborhood.
the "Snack Shop" at Revere Street and Newfield Avenue is the latest business to be closed by the city.
Officials say the store has a long list of violations from expired food to insects inside the cooler.
City officials say the business was also creating a public safety hazard.
In late July, city officials shut down the Sunshine Deli, which they say is also known for being a "magnate for violent crime."
The recent murder of 32-year-old DaeDae Gray took place near the business, police say.
Mayor Joe Ganim says business need to comply with city regulations and not be a public health hazard or they will be shut down.
Ana Wade, who works at the shop, said city officials are using tactics that are both heavy-handed and unfair. She says they just want to clean up the area for a development coming to the neighboring property.
Wade says the business actually passed inspection and was granted the necessary certificates.
"They don't want you here so they find reasons to keep you closed, but they don't have any legitimate reasons to keep him closed," says Wade.
The city says its one and only motivation is keeping the public safe.
“We're going to continue to do this anywhere that it's brought to our attention throughout the city."
City officials say they will soon tear the buildings down located on the property.
