The summer barbequing season is in full swing, but members of Community Board 11 are demanding an end to illegal grilling along Pelham Parkway.
While signs have been posted stating that no barbecuing is allowed in the area, parkgoers keep firing up the grills along the Pelham Parkway.
The main concern of those against illegal grilling is the hazard of fires lit under low-lying park trees and charcoal fumes that make their way into nearby homes.
Community Board 11 members say they aren't against barbecues or families enjoying their time in the borough parks. They just want grilling done in a responsible and legal manner.
The Parks Enforcement Unit issued a statement saying that illegal barbecuing is a serious condition that can injure people and destroy parks. It said that the city has a dedicated force of parks enforcement officers to stop illegal grilling.
