The Town of Orange Police Department got a little brighter Wednesday thanks to some colorful works of art.
Assistant Chief Max Martins says he got the idea after seeing chalk drawings and well wishes for health care workers and first responders in his neighborhood.
He posted his idea on Facebook and got a great response from the community. People email the assistant chief to find out what times are available, and he schedules them to make sure multiple cars aren't in the parking lot at the same time.
Martins says it's a great opportunity for kids and parents to get out of the house and that it also allows police officers to see some art and wave to people from a distance.
"If you read some of this stuff, it's not just the police but it's for other essential workers and medical personnel, fire personnel, so it's nice. We're all in this together. We're all doing our part, we just want everybody else to do their part in staying safe and healthy," said Martins.
The town says they're going to keep on doing this and will even open up more portions of the parking lot if they have to. They're encouraging everyone to bring their own chalk, but if you forget it, the police have you covered.
