Con Edison customers were asked to use their energy wisely.
Communications director Jamie McShane explained steps that residents could take to make this happen.
"That means using dishwashers or laundry machines or heavy-intensive energy usage appliances later in the evening, like after 10 p.m. or early in the morning," McShane said.
Con Ed officials made this request as the utility company was simultaneously forced to make an 8% reduction in voltage Tuesday night.
They said it would impact over 40,000 customers in White Plains, Greenburgh, Scarsdale, Eastchester and Harrison.
News 12 asked residents if they were impacted.
"No, not yet," said one man in Hartsdale, who didn't want to give his name.
Although the reduction ended Wednesday morning, Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said he was in support of the decision.
"My mother is almost 101 and her power went off on Monday for about an hour and a half," Feiner said. "So, it's really important for everybody to pitch in and to conserve."
Other residents News 12 spoke to were not in favor of the decision.
"It's inconvenient," said a man in Hartsdale.
Con Ed officials said customers can still report outages through its website, its app or by phone.
