Former colleagues today honored the legacy of pioneering former Connecticut lawmaker Margaret Morton.
Morton, who was the first African-American woman to serve in the General Assembly after getting elected in 1972, died Saturday at Bridgeport Hospital. She was 87.
"She fought for people, particularly people in Bridgeport, our largest city, who often needed a voice," said Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who served with Morton in the state legislature.
